Cardinal.jpg (9304 bytes)     Otis School was named in honor of Esther L. Otis, an educator who served the Fremont public schools.  The school is located on the west side of Fremont and was built on 11.84 acres in 1962.  The original building was built with 18 classrooms.  Eight portable units were added to Otis School between 1982 - 1992.  The current  enrollment is 360 students with classrooms for pre-school thru grade 6 and special education.  Our school is diverse with 65% white, 7% black, 13% Hispanic, 1% Asian, and 13% multi-racial.

Students can become involved at Otis in various activities including band, orchestra, student council, safety patrol, D.A.R.E., Read to Kids reading program (gr. 1-3), Peer Mediation, after school Reading clubs (gr. 2-3), and before school Math club (gr. 4 & 6).  Annual events at Otis include Veteran's Day Program, Winter and Spring Musicals, Grandparent's Day, Academic Banquet, Spelling Bee, 6th grade Camp Storer Trip and the Spring Peace Rally.  Our P.T.O. is an active organization which meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month.  They raise funds for field trips, assemblies, and special projects.

Otis has a unique partnership with Bethesda Care Center which is located next door to our school.  The intergenerational "grand friends" program has enriched the lives of students, residents, parents, teachers, and the whole community.  Otis students and Bethesda residents work together to present  community special events such as the September 11th Day of Remembrance and unique arts-related programs.

The faculty and staff of Otis welcome visitors anytime.  Appointments for visits can be made by calling: (419) 332-8964.
