Atkinson School was named in honor of Mr. W. A. Atkinson, an educator who served the Fremont public schools for thirty-four years. The school was located for many years on East State Street at Fifth Street. In 1952, the present Atkinson School was built on an eleven acre site on Delaware Avenue in the southeastern portion of the city. The new building had eight classrooms. In 1955, an additional ten classrooms and a kindergarten were built. Currently our building houses fifteen classrooms: two sections of grades one through six, and two half-day kindergarten classrooms. There are three special education resource rooms and a multi-handicapped unit housed at the building.
Atkinson was rated "EFFECTIVE" based on the 2006-07 State of Ohio Standards. We are proud of this accomplishment and continue to strive for on-going improvements.
We are proud of the fine heritage of Atkinson School and strive to continue to develop each individual student's unique abilities and talents. Our mascot is the Ram and the new motto for the Rams is Reading at Atkinson Means Success. MISSION STATEMENT
