Giant Step Award Winners
2012-13 Third Quarter
Fremont City Schools honored five of its employees recently through its Giant Step Award recognition program. The awards are based on principles of leadership, motivation and dedication.

Excellence in Education Award Winner
Deb Acker
Fremont City Schools honored one of its recently retired teachers, Deb Acker, through its Excellence in Education recognition program. Deb was recognized for her continued dedication to volunteering her services for our students at Washington Elementary. She was nominated by Washington Elementary School teachers Abby Markwith, Randy Brown and Joanne Traczek.

Fremont City Schools have developed a comprehensive Communication Plan. Committee Members include Nicole Crawford, Bryce Dukeshire, Heidi Gallagher, Gracy Lloyd, Don Nalley, Christine Opelt, Christine Oravets, Juanita Sanches, Rhonda Schmidt, Ellen Shawl, Andrew Smith.
Initiatives in the plan include the following:
- District Calendar – All events taking
place in the district are located on the website under the
district calendar tab and in hard copy version located at each
of the nine buildings. Thank you goes out to Memorial Hospital
for sponsoring our district calendar.
- District Newsletter – Our district
newsletter is posted on the website under the communication tab
and published the third Tuesday of the month in the Fremont
News Messenger.
- Fremont Focus – The video broadcast is
also posted on the website under the communications tab. Each
quarter a video is created to highlight events happening in our
district. Time Warner Cable airs our show every Thursday and
Friday at 9:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. Tune into our student produced
and edited Fremont Focus!
- Staff Recognition - Both staff and
community members have the opportunity to nominate a staff
member for the “Giant Step” award. Each
building has nomination forms and a drop-off box for
nominations. Five names will be drawn quarterly and reviewed by the
communication committee to receive this recognition.
- Listen to WFRO during the What’s Happening time for upcoming announcements
of activities to attend in Fremont City Schools.
